Pardon Me

Pardon me, but I must post one non-free food event. This event is a special exception: it costs $20 in advance, but there will be so much delicious food that it’s completely worth it. It’s a charity auction in Statler, and I happen to have tremendous faith in the people planning it (especially one dashing brunette). Hope to see you there tonight!

“Battle of the Late Night Foods”

Free food will be available from tons of local places, like TBP and Insomnia Cookies. There will be music and performances to entertain you while you stuff your face. The entire thing is free if you have a Cornell ID of any kind. SEE YOU THERE.

Tomorrow’s Eats

Autumn Snacks

There will be free hot apple cider and candied apples on the Engineering Quad tomorrow (Thursday, October 29) from 4pm - 6pm, provided by the Class of 2010 council. Warning: candied apples appear better than they are.

Pizza

The Sprocket Cognitive Science Film Series presents Young Frankenstein and pizza at Uris Hall room 202, 6:30pm - 9:00pm.

Light Turkish Refreshments

Did you know it was Turkish Republic Day so soon? Can you  believe it’s been a whole year since the last one? To celebrate by eating light refreshments, go to the Big Red Barn from 7:00pm - 9:00pm, as long as you’re willing to watch Su Cilgin Turkler (in Turkish).

P.S.

There is also a lecture tomorrow on Practical Strategies for Treating Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Abdominal Pain, Constipation, Diarrhea, and Bloat. Consider this if the Turkish food doesn’t sit right.

Tomorrow’s Eats

Dinner

Feel like Challah? Go to Shabbat dinner at the Roitman Chabad Center at Cornell, at 102 Willard Way. Services start at 7:00pm, and then free dinner is at 7:30pm. I think it’s kosher to go regardless of religious affiliation.

Hello World, Let’s Eat!

I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day (soon) it will be possible, through a concerted effort of passionate and hungry individuals, to eat at least one free meal each day on the Cornell campus. This blog is simply a place to share information about free food in Ithaca, NY.

The Basics:

  • There is an Events Calendar on the Cornell website. Some events include food.
  • Many departments hold colloquia, sometimes involving food.
  • Informational meetings often include pizza as a baiting mechanism.
  • Some departments hold weekly events and serve food, for example: the English department hosts poetry readings, followed by receptions, in Goldwin Smith Hall every Thursday at 4:30. The Cognitive Science Program shows films in Uris Hall, room 202, every Thursday at 6:30, and they bring pizza.
  • “Class of” events usually are structured around food.

So, our mission is cut out for us! Each day, I will do my best to find one free food option for the next day on campus or in Ithaca. Your job is to do the same! Find free food, using these and/or other resources, and post them here.

Yours,

Becky
